18 - 24 month baby growth, development and milestones
Kids are truly Gods gift. There's so much to cherish about them. Every kid is different and unique in their own way.
Toddlers are when they start walking around 1 year to 3 years. Its a great phase for their cognitive, physical and various skill development. My lil one took her first few steps during her 10months, and many a activities like running, talking few words, scribbling started by 1 year .
18 months (1year 6month)
Mostly babies can repeat all the words, mine one repeats all the words we speak.
Took her to the swimming pool, she enjoyed water a lot, splashing it while she was sitting on pool stairs. She was uncomfortable if I carried her in water, as her feet was not on ground.
By now, she knows all the colors which we introduced to her. Knows most of the body parts, Knows all the objects/ pictures in her books. Sings 'Rain Rain go away' and 'Twinkle lil star', 'Ba ba black sheep.
Most of the kids are crazy after animals and so is mine.
Love for ducksNow more aware of colors, Have started understanding things, as in if we are talking about her - she will all of a sudden turn towards us and watch both of us talking. If she realizes, about am going away from her, instantly she will come to me and hug or sit on me.
From now on she loves car and rolls away the cars/ truck toys and plays a lot with it. Now no more scared of moving musical toys, infact now enjoys them and wants to keep playing. All the kids love songs and dancing.
During this phase, her tummy was upset (mostly because of hot weather and eating all stuffs like mango, very ripe papaya). The main problem with these are that they loose appetite, their full diet gets disturbed, infact mine one within a week lost 1/2kg . Docs suggested to give lot of liquid, ORS and anti-diarrhea mix.
By now, she understands Rain and as soon as she sees its raining, she starts singing 'Rain Rain go away' with bit action.
20 months (1year 8month)
By now, she sings other rhymes in tits-bits like 'Itsy Bitsy spider', 'Humpty Dumpty', 'Mulberry bush', 'Johny johny'. She likes seeing spiderman rhymes, action, balloons and rhymes on you tube. During this phase, she was able to understand the different shapes and match the same shapes together.
She again got back to habit of eating while watching phone (Not good). Somehow, since her tummy upset she stopped telling to go to bathroom for pee and poo. So, its us, who have to take her within an hour to pee or else all wet.
Sense of 'self' matures in toddlers and it then becomes mainly mine and tells what she likes and does not like. She now again started going to known people. Though resists and sticks to us if new or hardly met people.
New thing is she started talking so many rhymes in her baby tone. She started stringing 3 to 5 words sentences. These are mainly noun and verbs. 'papa, mumma laughing'; 'Aunty cleaning' ; Dog walking, 'papa go work', 'shoes here', She understands dirty clean, big small . She got hang of pronouns such as 'I, you, mine'. If I whisper and talk to her, she too whispers back 😍. Now, she knows when to say 'sorry', 'it's ok'. She says 'thank you' on her own when she gets what she likes.
Tries to dance what and how she see though could not copy. Now knows all the colors. Started again telling poo and sits in the toilet and does. Started knowing how to spit after brush.
Communicates what she wants, though sometimes talk a lot in her own words. Throws lot tantrums in what she wants. Making her eat food, is a challenge.
When she doesn't want to eat, then whatever I do, show phone, try to divert, then also she will not eat. From this phase, trying to decrease bm habit while sleeping.
Water- she takes but drinks less and spills more and then enjoys splashing with water. She tells whenever she needa go poo.
The toddlers learn expressing themselves by seeing others or how we talk to them. So, she has started expressing when scared, angry, sad, happy, dancing mood.
She started opening her shoes on her own. She started climbing up and down the stairs on her own.
First time she rode the kids scooter by balancing and stepping one leg down and moving forward.
22 months (1year 10month)
She can easily open up the door handle and try rolling the knobs on tip tie, put the key in the hole and try to rotate. Stands on edges of sofa.
Have started self playing for an hour, just that we should be visible. Makes all her softies sleep before sleeping herself.
Talks about what all happened or she saw. Started telling new things and demanding on 'papa no phone, do nothing, listen to me, take rest or let's go or come here'.
Plays hide and seek with her friends (though she comes out and always visible)
Tells pee, then opens her pants and goes to toilet on her own to bathroom and does pee. Outside also if we go for lesser time say 1hr, then don't make her wear diapers, she tells us 'pee'.
I stopped on the BM that she used to have before sleeping or at night(2-3 times). Thanks to my hubby who made her sleep and slept with her continuously for a week, and that's it. She just touches sometimes and herself says 'no dudu'😅.
Surprisingly with stopping BM at night, within 2-3 days her night sleep also improved, she now started sleeping whole night.
23 months (1year 11month)
Babies get control over fingers slowly, so herein she got strength of using fingers to open battery cover it anything hard with finger nails. Also, started showing 2 or 3 or 4 fingers correctly on listening. She knows 1-10 and tries till 20. If she see any word, she can recognize few letters what she knows to spell and locate it. Her speed of running from starting is like a wind and now she runs in different different manner.
We have started putting her back in her bed by our side, so that she gets used to sleep independently. Though making her sleep is a 1/2-1 hr task (with her papa she plays with soft toys & sleeps and with mumma hearing stories and lullaby).
This phase again she wants to bite things and likes eating crispy stuff.Sometimes, she choose her shoes to wear. She can take out her shoes.
Her potty and pee is now properly in the bathroom, Every time she has to do, she tells us 'susu potty'.
& here she is in her 1month phase to complete 2 Years
Now, my baby is a smart toddler, she knows what she wants and what not. Be it food or dress or toys, but yes shes a toddler after all who can be diverted easily by showing or talking about something else, we can still convince her with love, what we want her to do.
She narrates all the stories at home when she comes from outside of what all happened, what she did, what she saw, what she ate, she conveys everything what she has to. She climbs each and every place and height, which is very alerting for us.
Kids throw tantrums, and its one of the common feature among all the kids, just that few kids have less tantrums, whereas few are like if there work is not done as per them, they become rebellious. It's us how we handle their tantrums.
