Best Places to visit in Deoghar - Jharkhand

Baidyanathdham Deoghar


Tourists visiting Jharkhand, always prefer to visit Baidhyanathdham Deoghar and go to Baba Temple and take a ride on Ropeway to Trikuti Pahar. Besides, below mentioned are the places to visit in Deoghar:

Baba Baidyanathdham Temple 

Being one of the sacred temples of India, it attracts many tourists. It holds very high ground in terms of spiritual beliefs among the Hindu pilgrimages. The main temple of the spot is the Jyotirlingam, dedicated to local deity of the region  named as 'Baidyanth' (another name of Lord Shiva). The temple compound houses 21 other temples of different god and goddess. The ceilings and walls of the temple are beautifully adorned with a number of bells.

As per the Hindu rituals, you are supposed to go to the main Lord Shiva temple, then as soon as you come out, infront of it is Goddess Parvati temple (wife of Lord Shiva), go and worship there. And then side by side visit all the other temples in the compound. After you workship in all the temples, devotes light up the diya/ agarbatti in between the Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati temple to fulfil there wishes. Before leaving the temple complex, sit anywhere in the compound for a minute and then leave the temple. (Note- The main baba temple closes for an hour in the afternoon, so, try to go either in the morning or in the evenings. Temple opens at 4 am.)



The temple is brimming with Lord Shiva devotees on Mondays (as It's considered to be a day of Lord Shiva); on Shivaratri festival day and during Shrawan season (July-August).

Travelers are advised not to wear valuables and carry huge cash in the temple campus, as usually it is crowded. And leave your footwear either in the hotel , or in the shops/ shoe keeper outside the temple.

ShivaGanga

Another wonderful place nearby to the main Baba temple, to visit in Deoghar. As per the Hindu mythology, It is said that this place was discovered by the 'Ravana'. It's actually a Kund (Pond).


Nandan Pahar

Is a small hill near the edge of Deoghar and have become a picnic spot. There is a entertainment park for kids like basic rides, ghost house, boot house, Garden, lake, restaurant.



Also you can enjoy a tram ride around it.



Vehicles come to the base and then one has to walk up.

Naulakha Temple

It is dedicated to Radha- Krishna. Very peaceful beautiful serene temple. It is situated 1.5 km from the main Baba temple. It opens at 7 am.


Thakur Chandra Satsang Ashram

Satsang is a holy place where the followers of Sri Sri Thakur gather to worship. The Ashram is spread across in a huge area. It has beautiful gardens, Zoo and a museum in its complex with a sarva dharma temple.


Ramakrishna Mission

Established by Swami Vivekananda and founded in 1922. It is located at Tiwari chowk in Williams Town in Deoghar.  It is a residential school only for young boys wherein they are imparted knowledge regarding the culture and the tradition. Along with curricular studies, students are grounded with various skills like horse riding and involved in all kind of extra curricular activities. It has a beautiful, large spread across campus surrounded by trees and many playgrounds. 


Trikuti Pahar / Deoghar Ropeway

Also known as Trikutachal, has three main peaks on the hills. It is at the height of around 2,470 ft . The hill is the origin of River Mayurakshi and also has a Lord Shiva temple. During the month of Shravan, It is very often visited by tourists and pilgrims for collecting wood apple leaves ('Bael' in Hindi). 

It is located 16-20 km from Deoghar and is on the way to 'Dumka' city or if you visiting Basukinath then it's on the way. 
When you reach the foot hill, You can opt for Cable car ride which costs around Rs 100/ person which takes around 10 mins to reach the top hill. Go and follow the foot trails and enjoy the scenic view.


One can also climb the hill by foot, it takes around 2 hours to climb to the top.

Tapovan 

Tapovan is another holy site located 10 km from B. Deoghar. There's a hill with many a monkeys and have become a picnic spot, and many a caves and in one of the caves there is a Shivlinga as well. In the earlier period, the site was a meditation spot for the Nagas, and known as Tapobhumi. It is said that Sage Valmiki came at the site for penance. Tourists can also visit a cemented Kund, known as Shukta Kund, As per the Hindu mythology, it is believed that Goddess Sita used to take bath in this pond.



Few other places to visit are DevSangha Ashram, Shitala Mandir, Baiju temple, Hathi pahar and Mayurakshi River.

The best time to visit Deoghar is during the months of August - March, to avoid unbearable heat of summers. Enjoy your stay :)
