Hills nearby Kuala Lumpur - Fraser's Hill

FRASER'S HILL

Among few hilly spots near around Kuala Lumpur, Fraser's Hill is one among them. It is not much commercialized unlike others, because it doesn't have any transport facilities for Tourists so far.

It was a lovely morning during one of the Ramadan Holidays, when Biji (my friend) called and said "Get up, its such a nice weather, lets go for a drive". And luckily this day, unlike others we didn't had any plan. I just said her "Yes, lets go, but where, may be to any hilly place or you wanna go to beach!". She said "First get ready, will see". We both got ready and packed our bags. By the time, our friends came to pick us up.

As we got in the Car, she said "We going to Frasers Hill". I was like yippee... as I haven't been there so perfect, lets go.

It is 105 km north - that's around two hours drive towards north of Kuala Lumpur. From Kuala Lumpur, exit to Rawang toll and then look for Kuala Kubu Bahru, Once reaching KKB, its 30mins drive to Gap.. Access to Fraser's Hill was possible only via a 8 km one-lane road known as the The Gap, used by uphill and downhill traffic in turns.
On our way to Fraser's Hill, Subrat stopped near a big Lake. In that weather particularly, It was looking magnificent with the reflection of the hills falling over the water of the lake. As we went nearby, got to know its one of the 10 dams that provide water to whole of Malaysia and known by the name of 'Sungai Selangor Dam'. The lake was calm and large. We all spent almost an hour there.

Then we continued our drive towards the destination. The Gap route was quite winding, one after the other turns and turns and turns. OMG... I was like when will we reach the final destination, as after 20mins something started happening in my tummy. Though I was fully engaged in talks with friends and in the scenery and the jungle view outside, which diverted my mind.

One will be greeted with the Fraser's Hill clock tower. We parked the car nearby it. When we came out of the car, felt so refreshing as the weather was just perfect- shady and cool. We all walked around that place, clicked pics at 'Clock Tower'.

Sat nearby 'Royal Fraser’s Hill Golf Course' chit chatted and enjoyed the view. Meanwhile, we all also had our lunch together at Sports Complex

Got to know that there are many a Jungle trails in Bukit Fraser which we missed this time, like Hemmant Trail, Bishop Trail, Rompin Trail, Maxwell Trail - six kilometre Pine Tree Trail.

Further we drove 4 km from Bukit Fraser's town centre, by a steep and narrow road towards a waterfall. My friends stopped in between as it was far off, so I Ashish walked ahead up and down towards 'Jeriau Waterfall'.

The waterfall was beautiful, sand below and directly the shower pouring on you, the water was really cold. In fact we could walk up to the point from where the water actually falls (and at that point my hubby went crazy and really wanted to enjoy the jump along with the water).

Infact saw people filling up there bottles with this water as well. This place is worth the long trek. Just mind your steps and be careful about the loose soil when walking.

On our way towards city centre, crossed 'Strawberry Farm' and nursery. One can stop by to pick strawberries and other plants.

There were few expert photographers looking around in search to capture the picture of particular species of birds.

We stopped by Taman Awam -which is a public park with many a restaurants, to grab drinks and food. Also did some shopping there.

While returning, we saw 'Paddock' which is a centre for horse ridding activities. Entry charge is MYR 5 for adult.

Luckily, there wasn't any traffic while driving down and infact in the city as well it was empty due to the long weekend. Just on our way near by the junction of Ipoh, Genting, we got stuck for 15 mins due to a crash. We reached our home by 9pm.
Other than the above mentioned, the places to visit in Bukit Fraser are:-
  • Allan's Water - can do boating and enjoy in Rollers. As none of us were interesting in it, so kipped it.
  • Bird Center
In fact in the month of June, International Bird Race is conducted in Fraser's Hill. So, anyone interested can find out on net which date it is and visit at that moment.

These are few of the good restaurants where you can have your Food -

  • The Smokehouse Hotel & Restaurant (ribeye steak costs about RM 55. corkage charge of RM 40 if decide to BYO.)
  • Hillview Restaurant, Puncak Inn (at clock tower) serves Chinese and Western food
  • Arzed Restaurant
  • Food Garden.
It's a cool though smaller place for people who love driving and want to escape for a day or two from the daily life schedule.
