Places to Visit in Udaipur ( Rajasthan, India)


Udaipur is a nice clean town based out of Rajasthan in India.
The best time to visit Udaipur is September to March to avoid extreme summers.
  • Lake Pichola - 1 km from city centre and the vital identity of Udaipur. It is a 4km man made lake. You should take a boat ride from Rameshwar Ghat (every hour) in the City Palace. The lake has 2 famous Islands named Jagniwas (has Taj Lake Palace -Museum tour cost-75 INR, Crystal gallery tour cost - 500 INR, Boat ride- 450 INR) and other one is Jagmandir (also known as Lake Garden palace- Charges for 1/2 hr boat ride- 225 INR adult and 115 INR children). Duration - 1-2hrs, open whole day 9am till sunset 7pm. Ticket- For Boat ride- 340 INR(adult) and 170(child). Sunset boat ride costs approx. 220 INR.
  • Fateh Sagar Lake - It was constructed in 1678 and is situated in the north of Lake Pichola and connected via a Canal. You shall take a boat ride as there are 3 islands in the Lake, out of which 'Nehru Garden' is ideal place for family outing, as it has a zoo, fountains and a floating restaurant. Timing - 9:30am - 7pm. Entry Ticket : 50 INR.
  • City Palace - in Udaipur is located on the banks of Lake Pichola was built by Maharana Udai Mirza Singh in 1559. It's a must visit if you are in Udaipur. Enter the palace from Badi Pole in the north or through Chander Chowk in the south. It's architecture is exquisite, this grand white palace is a heritage building - the crystal gallery, Daawat-i-Aam, Maharani Palace and the view from the Palace of the city and Lake Pichola is awestruck. Bada Mahal - is an incredible  structural marvel dated back to 17th century. Constructed in Rajput Mughal architectural style, the Mahal is considered as the Mens section of the City Palace.  Duration - takes almost 2-3 hrs to explore whole of it. Entry ticket - for adult is 300 INR/ person. Timing - 9:30am - 5:30pm.

  • City Palace Vintage Car Museum - located 1km from the city palace, housed in the former state garage has many a mesmerizing and royal vibrate vehicles, which are almost 70 years old and all in working condition. Entry Ticket : 250 INR/adult and 150 INR/child. Timing : 9am -9pm.

  • Jagdish Temple - Temple is located near the Badi Pol entrance of the City Palace. It's an Indo-Aryan temple, with Lord Vishnu diety in black stone and facing it is a brass image of Vishnu vehicle Garuda. There are many small shrines in the premises.

  • Saheliyon-ki-Bari ' The Garden of the Maidens' - A delightful  and must see place in the North city, really a big complex, having lush greenery garden, shady cool walking lanes with beautiful fountains, kiosks, marble elephants and a delightful lotus pool. It was built for the 48 maids who accompanied along with the princess. Timing - 9am-7pm. Entry Ticket : 10 INR/ Indian and 50 INR/ foreigner.

  • Bagore Ki Haveli - is situated on the Ganguar (Gangori) Ghat of Lake Pichola. Known for its architectural splendour having grand structure with more than 100 rooms with fine mirror work decoration and displays traditional collection (Don't forget to check out the 30inch high Pagdi/turban at the museum). The evening (7pm) music show and dance is a must attend for tourists. Timing - 10am - 7pm. Ticket: 60 INR.

  • Ambrai Ghat - located on the bank of Lake Pichola, overlooking City Palace and Lake Palace. It is just beautiful, and a must visit especially at sunset.

  • Bhartiya Lok Kala Museum - Situated at the Chetak Circle, a must visit for history lovers, because it offers an insight of the lifestyle, dresses, jewellery, turbans, dolls, musical instruments, painting and puppets. The interesting part was they have a puppet show for half an hour, that was the most interesting and enjoyable part of the museum. Timing - 10:30am -7pm. Entry Ticket - 20 INR/ Indian, 35 INR/ Foreigner.

  • Shilpgram (meaning "craftsmen's village") - Located in the north west of Udaipur, It's a Government owned complex having around 26 huts, showcases the cultural and rural life of many a parts of India. You can enjoy the folk music, traditional dance, horse and camel rides; and purchase the traditionally made items. A crafts fair is held every year in November/ December. Timing : 11am - 7pm. Entry Tickets: 30 INR/ Indian and 50 INR/ Foreigner.

  • Sajjangarh Palace /Monsoon Palace - is a glorious residential palace overlooking the Pichola Lake, located at a peak Bansdara Mountain. It's famed for the sunset view. One can also visit the nearby Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary. An electric Golf cart is available for you to spot the bears, chitals, sambars, jackals, crocodiles and many more.

  • Moti Magri/ Maharana Pratap Smarak - It's situated on hill top overlooking Lake Fatehsagar. It has one of the earliest palaces in Mewar called Moti Mahal, then the famous Maharana Pratap memorial; delightful Japanese Rock Garden and the evening light and sound show showcases the thousands year of rule of Mewar. Timing: 9am - 5:30pm. Ticket: 20 INR.

  • Mansapurna Karni Ropeway - This cable car is installed between 2 mountains. People admire the view from the Gondolas. On going on top, one gets the best view of Udaipur, as City Palace, Lake Pichola, Lake Fatehsagar, Sajjangarh fort and Aravali mountains can be seen from here. Doodh Talai Musical garden is a rock and fountain garden to enjoy the sunset. This areal tramway/ cable car is connecting a garden of Doodh Talai and Karni Mata temple.

  • Jaisamand Lake, also known as Dhebar Lake- is the second largest artificial lake in Asia, situated 48kms from Udaipur, built in 1685 by Maharana Jai Singh. There are 7islands in the lake and the major attraction here are the Dam and the Lord Shiva Temple.

  • Eklingji Temple - located 22 km north east from Udaipur, on the way to Nathdwara. One can book a cab/car for to and fro journey from here, or can take local buses going from Udaipur bus stop. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva (four faced idol of Eklingji made of black marbel) and the most famous temple of Rajasthan and major attraction for devotees. The architecture of the temple is worth praising.

  • Nathdwara - Located 48kms north east of Udaipur, is a town famous for the highly revered Shrinathji Temple. It's one of the most important temples in India dedicated to Lord Krishna.

  • Kumbalgarh Fort - Located 85km (2hr) from Udaipur. This massive fort  spread in 30km, has a distinction of the world's second largest wall. It attracts by its astonishing architecture, fascinating history and stunning view. You can do Horse riding and camping as well. Timing - 9am -5pm. 

  • Haldighati - is around 53 km, on the outskirts of Udaipur. It's the battlefield that occurred between the Rajputs and the Mughals. The Haldighati museum showcases this event and also the life of Maharana Pratap.
