Langkawi- One of the best beaches

Langkawi, is very famous among the tourists. It’s one of the must visit places in Malaysia. 

Currency Malaysian currency is Ringgit (RM), so the same is used in daily life or for currency exchange in Langkawi.

Airport - is just 15 minutes’ drive away from Langkawi Island’s popular Pantai Cenang and Pantai Tengah stretch. As Panatai Cenang beach offers lot of water sports and good nightlife, so usually people prefer this area to stay. From airport, Taxi charges approx. 6$(RM24) to get to Kuah jetty or Pantai Cenang; and approx. 7$(RM28) to Pantai Kok or Teluk Datai and approx. 10$(RM35) to Tanjung Rhu.

Best Time to visit LangkawiLangkawi experiences tropical weather all-round the season. The mid-season i.e., April to August is ideal season (neither dry nor rainy) to visit Langkawi.


1) Underwater World
It’s in Pantai Cenang which is just 15 minutes drive from airport. Underwater world is open till 6:30 pm and costs approx. 10$/Person. You can get to see penguin, seal and tunnel tank feeding activities which is conducted once in the morning and once in the evening (usually starts in morning from 10:30 am -11:30 am and in evening feeding starts at 2:30 pm till 4 pm). So, if you are visiting Underwater world, prefer to visit around these timings.

2) Langkawi Cable Car 
Cable car is based in Pantai Kok, and it will whisk you to the top of Mount Mat Cincang. It takes approx. 15 minutes to reach to the top. It is closed on Sundays. Cable car charge is approx. 10$ (35 RM).



3) Langkawi Sky Bridge
Sky bridge is a must visit in Langkawi. It’s an awesome experience to be here. We just loved this bridge, in between while we were on the bridge, it was too windy, and due to the strong wing, we felt the bridge being shaking a bit. It’s just approx 1$ (RM 5) and Sunday it’s closed. Monday to Saturday it’s open from 10 am-7 pm.

4) Kuah Sightseeing
It is the Eagle statue at Dataran Lang, Legend Park, and island’s main ferry jetty. Especially in evening, when the lights are on, it looks just beautiful. The town is also a good place for duty-free shopping. We 4 drove by scooty, from Sky bridge to Kuah in the evening. By the time we returned to town it was dark and felt bit cold while driving scooty. 



5) Datai Bay Beach
Datai Bay is home to various beautiful resorts and you need to stay here to enjoy its beauty. It’s a curved beach with white sands. It stretches to about 1.5 km along the length.
6) Tanjung Rhu
Tanjung Rhu is Langkawi’s one of the best shorelines. The waters are crystal clear and powder like sand is located behind Pantai Pasir Hitam. There are few road side stalls for you to enjoy shopping and have local street food.
7) Pantai Tengah
P Tengah is linked to Pantai Cenang and is famous for lesser priced Spas, Eagle-Feeding Tours, various water rides like jet skiing, banana boat and many more and have a Stunning Nightlife. 


At Pantai Cenang beach, We hired 2 Jet ski for 1/2 an hr and rode it, it's totally a thrilling and adventurous experience, one must really have a strong hand grip to drive it. Then did parasailing, while taking us for parasailing, they made us sit on banana boat and took in between the sea and transferred to main boat.


8) Gunung Raya
It is the highest Peak in Langkawi. There are 2 ways to reach this peak which is full of vast flora and fauna, is via drive or you can trek as well. Taxis usually take 15$(RM 60) one way either from Pantai cenang or Kuah.
9) Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls
If you want to visit the waterfalls, then go to the so called ‘The Seven Wells Waterfalls’ which is located in Pantai kok area, where the cable car ride is located. It is managed by Berjaya leisure.


Some of the other waterfalls are Durian Perangin Waterfall and Temurun Waterfall.

10) Dayang Bunting Island
It means Lake of the Pregnant Maiden and Pulau Dayang Bunting is the second largest islands among 99 cluster of islands in Langkawi. It is accessible via 15minute of boat ride from Kuah jetty. Its freshwater lake is great for swimming.
11) Kilim Geo Park & Mangroves & Gua Kelawar Caves
You can take either full day or half day boat mangrove tour to visit these places. Like we took the full day mangroove tour package and must say it was good. It is in Kilim River and towards North East end of Langkawi. Gua Kelwar caves are a bat-infested cave and you go by boat ride through dense mangrove forest to it and then another Gua Cerita (Cave of Legends),is a small mystical cave overlooking a beach.


12) Pulau Payar Marine Park
It comprise of 4 uninhabited island and is famous among who wants to do swimming, Snorkelling & Scuba diving. It has exotic marine life and coral reefs. It takes about an hour to reach by speed boat from Kuah jetty. Usual charges are 30-50$ (120-200 RM).
13) Tomb of Princess Mashuri
Few of the other places to visit in Langkawi is Makam Mashuri, it is open daily from 9am-6pm, it’s at Padang Matsirat at takes 20mins from airport. Here cultural performance in held on Friday and Saturday, ticket for foreigners are 2.5$(RM 10)/ person.
14) Gallery Perdana
It was the former official residence of Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia. , which have been converted to museum. Its visiting hours are from 8:30am-5:30pm. Tickets are 2.5$(RM 10)/ person and 1$ (RM 4) /child for foreign tourists. It is based in Jalan Ayer Hangat.
15) Wildlife Park & Bird Paradise
Whoever persists the Love for Nature, must visit here. Prices are 7$(28 RM) / person. Feeding time is 11am to 4pm.
16) Paradise 3D Museum
It is the 2nd Largest 3D Museum in the World and cost per person is approx. 10$ (RM 38)/ person. Just be ready to pose and act full-on. ;)


17) Taman Lagenda
Beautiful Folklore- It is a Theme Park near Kuah Jetty and cost approx. 1$(RM5) / person.
18) Island hopping
There are many an Island hopping packages by the local shops available, you can either book from them on the spot, or book online. Though best I will prefer directly go there and book as you can negotiate on the pricing a bit, as we did the same, and it was very convenient.
For e.g., take mangrove package or 3 island(lake, hiking and boating, eagle feeding, monkey feeding, pregnant women island), which costs approx. 10$ (RM 25-40)/person for half day tour (9:30-2:30 pm ), also the tour guides will pick you up and drop you to the hotel. 



In between the tour, the boat agents will stop by a place for fish feeding and having many a sea creatures for tourists to view. You can relax for a while there, and grab eatables. You can carry your own food or there's a restaurant as well from where you can purchase and eat.



How to explore/ travel in Langkawi:

You can either take a tour package with guide/vehicle; 
or book a cab with a driver or, 
If you drive then the best option is Rent vehicles in Langkawi –

  • approx. 15$ (60-90 RM) for small car proton,
  • approx. 20$ (70-100 RM) for sedan;
  • 10$ (40 RM) /day for 150 cc bike/scooter;
  • 6$ (25 RM) /day for 115 cc bikes.
Fuel is cheap in Malaysia i.e., less than a $ (2.10 RM)/ litre. So, drive and enjoy full on.
