Best places to visit in Kuala Lumpur



I have been staying in Kuala Lumpur in Raja Chulan area, since last 3 years and must say it is one of the best places for Expats to stay. Kuala Lumpur being the capital of Malaysia attracts many tourists. It has many a places to explore which can be covered in 3-4 days by the tourists. Jotting down the must visit places here in Kuala Lumpur:
1.   Batu Caves, Selangor

Batu Caves is a formation of series of caves from limestone with Lord Murugan Hindu temple/ shrine inside it. To see the main Temple cave you have to climb 272 stairs up to see this huge cave. Also do visit the Art gallery cave and museum cave at the base of the main cave. It’s around 15 km from KLCC. It’s open daily from 6 am – 9 pm.

2.   KLCC twin tower 

Petronas Twin Tower is one of the worlds famous and tallest architectural building is Kuala Lumpur. Both the towers are identical and having 88 stories, and 41 and 42 floors are linked by sky bridge. The entry fee for sky bridge in twin tower in 16 $ (65 RM)/person. KLCC Twin tower has a full-fledged mall inside with many a floors occupied for offices.

3.   KLCC Park
Back side of KLCC, has a 20 hectare beautiful park with trees, grass, ponds and fountains wherein you can jog, walk, sit, relax and enjoy your time. Also, in evening at 7:30pm the fountain show occurs till 8pm, so people gather around, sit and enjoy the view.

4.   KLCC Aquaria

It is the world’s largest aquaria (464,515 sq. mt.) with around 150 wonderful water species. Aquaria is located at the concourse level of KLCC. The entry fee is 16$ (64 RM)/ adult and 13$ (53 RM)/ child.
It is open from 11am – 8pm.

5.   KL Tower/ Menara KL and Canopy Walk

Menara KL is 421m high broadcasting and telecommunication tower standing atop the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve. The observation deck in Menara KL is the highest in the city giving you a mesmerizing view of the city. In the compound/area of Menara KL, you have upside down house, Few restaurants, Canopy walk is a good stuff to do and is free of cost in its forest reserve. For going to Observation deck there are few packages which you can choose from, either by directly going to 1st floor of Menara KL or can book online too.

6.   Kuala Lumpur Lake Garden – Bird Park/ Butterfly/ Hibiscus Park

Lake Garden, also known as Perdana Botanical Gardens is spread out over a vastly spread out area having various Lakes, Parks, auditorium, playing ground and shops inside. It’s just 15 mins walk from KLCC and 10 mins walk from merdeka square. KL Bird Park is divided into 4 zones, providing house to around 3000 birds.
KL Butterfly Park is the largest butterfly garden in the world, over 80,000 sq. ft., its main entrance is along Jalan Cenderasari. It’s open from 9am-6pm. Entry fee is 5$ (20RM) / adult and 2.5$ (10 RM)/ child. Orchid & Hibiscus Garden is house to 800 species of orchids with manmade fountains, semicircle pergola and rock garden. It’s open from 7am – 8pm. It’s alongside Jalan Kebun Bunga.



7.   Merdeka Square & Sultan Abdul Samad Building

Merdeka Square is a huge national ground in Kuala Lumpur, just in front of Sultan Abdul Samad Building wherein most of the national events occur. This building was designed by AC Norman and used to serve as a home to Ministry of Malaysia. It is located at Jalan tun perak and nearby LRT Masjid Jamek. You can just go and walk over the area.

8.   Petaling Street & Central Market
Petaling Street also known as China town is a must visit place for shopping and especially one who is good in bargaining, can win the game. In China town you need to be good in bargaining.
Just nearby opposite side to Petaling street -is Central market (also known as Pasar Seni) for traditional and cultural shopping. It has 2 floors. Pasar Seni metro is the nearest.

9.   Sri Mahamariamman Temple
It is the famous oldest Hindu temple in KL and is loacted on Jalan Tun HS Lee. Temple can be recognized by vibrant facade featuring Hindu deities on its walls.

10. Sin Sze Si Ya temple
It is the Chinese temple and said to be the oldest Chinese temple and is located on Jalan Tun HS Lee. Temple is open from 7am – 5pm. Nearest metro is Pasar Seni.

11. National Museum
National Museum (Muzium Negara) is an architectural wonder. It is a must visit place for people who are interested in the history and culture of Malaysia. It is located near the famous Lake Garden.

12.Berjaya Times Square

Berjaya Times Square has a Indoor theme area wherein you or your kids can have good fun with many a thrilling rides available. Berjaya Times square is a mall cum office area cum hotel. Must say it’s a good place for cheap shopping.

13. Jalan Alor
It’s biggest collection of roadside stall and restaurants with crowded night life. It’s located just behind/ north of Jalan Bukit Bintang. From 6pm till late night, lights are on and street transforms into open air restaurant.

14. Bukit Bintang
Bukit Bintang is the most famous and must visit place in KL. Shopaholics will find satisfaction taking a walk over to this area which includes many a malls like Pavilion, Fahrenheit; and then whole night can party in the area of Changkat Bukit Bintang.

15. Little India, Brickfields
Take a walk in the colourful Little India area with many a shops, offices, restaurants, church and Sri Kandaswamy temples around here. It is also a good place to try inexpensive Indian food.

16.I-city, Shah Alam

I city is designed as a fully intelligent city. It is located in Selangor around half an hr drive from Kuala Lumpur. The main is the theme park to explore. It comprise of Fun world (Red carpet, Trick art museum, house of horror) ; Snowalk; Outdoor park rides; Water world is open from 9 am – 6 pm daily; and City of Digital lights which is open from 6 pm – 4 am daily.

17. Sunway Lagoon

Sunway Lagoon Theme park is considered to be the best in the city with full on fun and thrill, with its 6 parks- Amusement park, Scream park, Extreme park, Wildlife park, Water park and . Try not to go over long weekends/ holidays as it’s always crowded, if going then prefer to take express line ticket so that you can save time and explore most of its rides. Sunway Lagoon is 15km from KLCC and is located on south western part of KL. Entry fees for Sunway lagoon is 40$ (150 RM)/ person, though look out for online offers on various sites, through which you can get at a discounted rate. It’s open from (11am on weekdays) 10 am – 6pm on weekends.

18. Genting, Pahang 
Genting is a beautiful place to visit if you are in Kuala Lumpur. It’s around 1 hr drive from Kuala Lumpur. It has got Chinese temple, Cable car, Casino, Rides and Mall.
