Drinking Water – How much, when & Health Benefits


USEFULNESS OF DRINKING WATER 


Today, I was just talking with few of my friends and also many a times before, have been discussing with my family about the benefits of drinking water in the right quantity – which actually comprise 70% of our body. I have read many a articles/ books and after discussing with few professors, doctors, elderly, have known many a proven facts about drinking adequate amount of water. 

If you are exercising or involved in sports, then keeping your body hydrated while exercising is very important, don’t wait until you are dying out of thirst to reach out for water. In fact, drinking warm water after your food is highly beneficial, Nowhere it's recommended to drink cold water/ liquid with or after your food. 

How much water to be consumed?

  • Everyday an adult should drink at least 2.5 litres i.e., 10 glasses of water on an average.
  • Though how much you need to drink, really depends on many factors like Gender (Female -2.7 lit & Male – 3.7 lit water), age, size, activity level and many more.

When to drink water (for a healthy and fit body)?


  •     After waking up – Have at least 2 glasses of water just after getting up in empty stomach. People who want to lose weight / lower the body fat, should have warm water.
  •         Before the meal (breakfast / lunch/ dinner) – Drink 1 glass of water 30 minutes before the meal.
  •     After the meal – Drink water after 45 minutes of having your meal. Do not drink water while having food as it will dilute the digestive juices.
  •     Before Bath – Drink 1 glass of water before going for shower, to help lower your blood pressure.
  •         Before Sleep – Drink 1 glass of water 30 minutes before you go to sleep, to keep you hydrated whole night.

Besides, do keep on sipping water in between your day and for sure drink water whenever you are thirsty/dehydrated.

Right way to drink water:

  • Always sit and drink water, avoid drinking water while standing.
  • Try to drink water mostly in steel/ glass utensil, avoid in plastics.
  •  Do not drink cold water while having your food or right after eating.

13. As per the research and now many a doctors alsoa have to say that 'People drinking adequate water specially after getting up in the morning and drinking water while sitting' have reduced risk of osteoporosis/ joint pain and muscles cramp.
